Dark knees and elbows aren't an indication of uncleanness. I've had this problem ever since I can remember and I have tried everything; vaseline; bleaching creams; lemon; everything, but nothing worked. It's easier for those who don't have this problem. Anyway, my point is, people with dark knees and elbows don't necessarily have bad hygiene and there's nothing to be "ashamed" of.
